Tigers searching for consistency as they take on red-hot Chiefs

Oct 30, 2026 | 11:22 AM

Following a 7-2 loss to the Wenatchee Wild, the Medicine Hat Tigers prepare to take on one of the top teams in the CHL, the Spokane Chiefs.

The Tigers have seen varying results over their last six games, having suffered three five-goal losses, along with an 8-1 win.

Consistency is something the Tigers have struggled to find to begin the season, particularly on the offensive side.

Those struggles have manifested themselves on the powerplay, a powerplay that ranks second in the WHL on the road, but is the lone man-advantage to score on home-ice yet this season.

The good news is the Tigers are on their second game of a six-game U.S. Division road trip so if they can continue to excel with the extra man throughout this trip, it should spark some confidence once the club returns home in mid-November.

Compared to the Tigers championship-winning team two years ago, this years squad holds a slightly better record through 12 games, 6-5-0-1, than the team that won the title, 6-6-0-0, possessed.

Tonight the Tigers take on a Spokane Chiefs team that enters 10-1-0-0, led by a stellar netminder in Carter Esler.

Esler, has gone undefeated in nine games while boasting a 1.64 goals-against average and a 0.937 save percentage.

Offensively, the Chiefs have been powered by Chase Harrington, who has 17 points through ten games, and Owen Martin, who has 12 points through eight games.

Esler, Martin, and Harrington were on the Chiefs two seasons ago when the Tigers beat them in five games in the WHL Championship Series.

The Tigers will aim to solve the puzzle of Carter Esler while sparking some consistency throughout their lineup as they aim to get back in the win column.

Puck drop from Spokane is slated for 8:05 p.m. MST, with the pregame show beginning at 7:45 on WILD 94.5 FM.
