Medicine Hat’s Whitson sits second at 2026 Canadian All Abilities Golf Championship

The tournament features 66 players competing over 54 holes in both Gross Stroke Play and Net Stableford events.

Athletes compete across divisions based on the European Disabled Golf Association Sport Class, including sitting, standing, intellectual and visual categories.

The championship includes both men’s and women’s gross and net competitions.

The championship was first held in 2021 and is part of Golf Canada’s efforts to create a more inclusive environment and expand competitive opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

Whitson, 37, is originally from Chatham, Ont., and was born with cerebral palsy.

He is a former player on the Canadian Sledge Hockey Team, having won a Paralympic bronze in 2014 and World Championship gold in 2013 and silver in 2015.

An avid golfer, Whitson was also a member of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers golf team as he worked toward his education degree. He is currently a teacher at St. Francis Xavier School in Medicine Hat.

He is an active member of Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation, where his wife Tara Chisholm is the program coordinator.
