Brooks RCMP issue marine patrols on Lake Newell and Rolling Hills Reservoir

Brooks RCMP issued several warnings during marine patrols on Lake Newell and Rolling Hills Reservoir this week as officers focus on boating safety during the busy summer season.

Police said officers conducted proactive patrols on July 29, checking numerous vessels and inspecting safety equipment to ensure boaters were carrying the gear required under federal regulations.

During the patrols, officers issued warnings to passengers for consuming open liquor aboard a vessel and to several paddleboard operators who were not carrying a required personal flotation device.

RCMP also used the patrols to educate boaters on safe operating practices and applicable boating regulations.
