Here is What’s On in Medicine Hat this weekend: July 3-5

Following Canada Day celebrations, there are still several things happening in Medicine Hat to keep you busy as we make our way into the first weekend of July.

The weather could bring some more rain, but it could also stay away.

On Friday, Environment Canada forecasts a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers. There is also a thunderstorm risk. Wind gusts of up to 40 km/h. A high of 27 C. In the evening, partly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm, then clearing. Wind gusts to 40 km/h before becoming light, and a low of 13 C.

Saturday is expected to bring a mix of sun and cloud, a 30 percent chance of showers late in the afternoon, and a chance for a thunderstorm. Wind gusts to 40 km/h near noon. A high of 31 C. In the evening, clear with a low of 10 C.

Sunday shows a sunny sky with a high of 27 C, and clear in the evening with a low of 10 C.

🐎 2026 Dunmore Equestrian Heritage Gather

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Dunmore Equestrian Centre is hosting the 5th annual Heritage Gather this weekend, featuring three days of rodeo action, cultural demonstrations, and family-friendly entertainment.

Friday and Saturday events begin with a pre-show at 6:30 p.m., followed by rodeo performances and live bands after the action wraps up.

Sunday will feature barrel racing and team roping jackpots.

Organizers say this year’s event will also include a powwow demonstration, a buffalo-riding act, and a variety of heritage and culture experiences, including artist booths throughout the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, Brenda Mercer will host a cultural craft session inside a tipi, and Joel the buffalo rider will lead a vintage rope-making demonstration where participants can learn the craft and take home a keepsake.

Food trucks will be on site throughout the event.

Admission is $25 for adults, with children 10 and under admitted free.

🏁 Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association: NHRA National Open/Points/Jet Car

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association is hosting the NHRA National Open, Points, and Jet Car weekend at the MHDRA Drag Strip in Redcliff.

Gates open at 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday opening at 7 a.m.

Each day will feature a full slate of racing action, including time trials, test and tune sessions, a Gamblers Race, and eliminations.

Friday’s program includes test and tune and the Gamblers Race beginning at noon, while Saturday features time trials starting at 9 a.m. and eliminations at 2 p.m.

Sunday wraps up the weekend with time trials at 9 a.m. and eliminations at noon.

🚎 Sunshine Trolley: Guided City Tour

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Sunshine Trolley: Guided City Tour, fuelled by South Country Co-op, is running multiple times this weekend in Medicine Hat.

The tours offer an in-depth guided experience led by local Medicine Hat residents, highlighting the history of neighbourhoods, streets, and some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

Stops along the route will give passengers the chance to hop off and briefly explore key areas before continuing the tour.

Pick-up is at the Visitor Information Centre at 330 Gehring Rd. SW

Children 12 and under ride free thanks to sponsorship from the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Tickets are required and available online at the Tourism Medicine Hat website.

⚾️ Medicine Hat Mavericks

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Mavericks open a two-game weekend slate, starting on the road on Friday when they visit the Lethbridge Bulls at Spitz Stadium.

The Mavs then return home on Saturday to host the Weyburn Beavers at Athletic Park.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. on Friday and 6:45 p.m. on Saturday as the Mavs look to build momentum in the Western Canadian Baseball League season.

🏚 Haunted Medicine Hat Trolley Tour

FRIDAY

Miller’s Emporium is inviting residents to take part in a one-night summer kick-off special featuring the Haunted Medicine Hat Trolley Tour.

The evening begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, featuring Tamara Miller, followed by a guided trolley tour through some of Medicine Hat’s most historic and reportedly haunted locations.

The event is $35 per person and is open to the public.

🥍️ Badlands Sun Devils

SATURDAY

The Badlands Sun Devils close out their regular-season home schedule in the evening on Saturday when they host the Calgary Bandits in Junior B Lacrosse action.

The Sun Devils enter the game at 6-8-1, sitting 6th in the standings in a tightly packed playoff race.

Opening faceoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Kinplex Arena in Medicine Hat.

🎯Southern Alberta Precision Rifle League: Heatwave

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Southern Alberta Precision Rifle League is bringing back its premium rimfire event, “Heatwave,” for the 2026 season in Medicine Hat.

The two-day competition includes “Sunstroke,” a PRS Rimfire Regional match starting at 7 a.m. on Day 1, followed by “Afterburn” at the same time on Day 2, both designed to challenge shooters with field-style stages including target acquisition, stage planning, and precision shooting.

Organizers said the .22LR-only event is aimed at both experienced competitors and newer participants, with no PRS membership required to participate.

The match will be held on private land near Medicine Hat, with registration details available through Impact Scoring.

🐍 Programs at the Interpretive Centre

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

On Saturday, the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program invites residents to take part in a nature-focused origami workshop in the morning at the Nature Centre in Police Point Park.

Participants will work with an interpreter to create local wildlife figures from colourful paper, ranging from beginner-friendly designs to more advanced creations, while learning about each species and its role in the local ecosystem.

The program runs from 10 a.m. to about noon.

Registration is required as space is limited. The requested donation is $5 per person.

On Sunday, the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is inviting residents to take part in a “Slither Hither & Thither” walk and talk Sunday afternoon at the Nature Centre in Police Point Park.

The family-friendly program will focus on local snakes, offering participants a chance to learn more about the species in the area, how they can safely observe them, and why they play an important role in the ecosystem.

Organizers said there may be opportunities to spot a snake during the walk, and any sightings will be from a safe distance.

The program runs from 1 to 2 p.m.

The event is free to attend, and registration is not required.
