Jul 3, 2026 | 7:50 AM

A Brooks man is facing charges after two police officers were allegedly assaulted while taking an intoxicated man into custody.

Brooks RCMP said officers responded to a report of two intoxicated patrons refusing to leave a taxi at about 11:12 p.m. on June 26.

Police said both men were arrested for public intoxication.

During the investigation, one of the men was also accused of assaulting the taxi driver by spitting at him.

Mounties allege that while one of the arrested men was being processed at the Brooks RCMP detachment, he became verbally confrontational, pushed an officer and grabbed at the officer’s throat.

A second officer suffered scratches while helping restrain the man, police said.

The man has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of resisting a peace officer.

Police said the man was released by the Crown and is scheduled to appear at Brooks Court on July 8.
