The Government of Alberta has appointed two new student members to the Medicine Hat College Board of Governors, bringing a student perspective to the institution.

Nicholas Cumming and Terri-Lee Currah have been appointed as student representatives, with their one-year terms that took effect on June 24.

The Board of Governors is responsible for the governance of the college, providing oversight and strategic direction to help ensure the institution meets its mandate under Alberta’s Post-secondary Learning Act.

Cumming, president of the Students’ Association of Medicine Hat College and a student in Business Administration, said the appointment allows him to advocate for students while gaining valuable leadership experience, calling the appointment “a great opportunity.”

He added that the appointment represents students, builds connections, and allows for learning opportunities from community leaders.

Currah, who is entering her second year of the Business Administration program with a marketing major, said she hopes to help ensure student voices are reflected in board discussions and decisions.

Student representatives bring a student perspective to the Board, which oversees the college’s long-term planning, governance and strategic priorities.
