The Medicine Hat Mavericks won 11-4 over the Red Sox in Regina on Monday night.

They have now won two straight against the Queen City opponent after dropping the first three games between the clubs.

The win also moves the Mavs up to third spot in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s East Division standings with an 11-15 record.

They are 7.5 games behind the first-place Saskatoon Berries.

During Monday’s game, the Mavs got off to a strong start with six runs in the second inning to take a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest.

In that inning, Carter Roth started off with a single, Eric Calder reached on a throwing error, and Johnny Vulcano then hit into a fielder’s choice, with Roth out at third.

Then the runs began, with Carson Chan hitting a double to score Calder and Vulcano. Nate King would fly out for the second out of the inning. A Josh Stark single would move Chan to third base. Evan Morrison would drive Chan home with a single. Blake Dale would then cap the inning off with a three-run home run. The Red Sox escaped more damage after striking out Frankie Giacalone.

Dale would get his fourth run batted in during the fourth inning when he hit a sacrifice fly to score Chan and extend the lead to 7-0.

The Red Sox offense would wake up in the bottom half of the fourth when Brady Bye doubled to drive in a pair, and was later brought home by a Will Togher double to cut the deficit to 7-3.

After a leadoff double by the Red Sox’s Daniel Castellanos in the bottom of the fifth, he was driven home by Justin Simard, who hit into a fielder’s choice, bringing the Red Sox within three at 7-4.

A double from Stark in the top of the seventh would bring in a pair of runners for the Mavs to extend the lead to 9-4, before Johnny Vulcano would score on a wild pitch to make it 10-4.

The final run of the game came in the top of the eighth inning when the Mavs’ Johnny Vulcano hit a single to drive in Blake Dale to put the score at 11-4.

Cody Myers got the win for the Mavs, giving up four runs across five innings while striking out six. JJ Harnett and Miguel De Jesus each pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Daniel Crabtree took the loss for the Red Sox after giving up 10 runs in six innings.

The Mavs had lots of opportunities to open things up even more with 10 runners left on base in the game. They also outhit the Red Sox 13-7 and committed no errors, against four by the Red Sox.

The Mavs return to action Tuesday in Moose Jaw against the Miller Express at 7:05 p.m.

Canada Day in Moose Jaw has an earlier start time for the two teams on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.

Next up will be a game in Lethbridge against the Bulls on Friday, before the Mavs host the Weyburn Beavers on Saturday at Athletic Park.
