Mobile mammography service to visit Bow Island

Jun 26, 2026 | 1:00 PM

Residents in the Bow Island area will have an opportunity to access breast cancer screening next month when the Screen Test mobile mammography program visits the community.

The mobile mammography trailer will be stationed at the Bow Island Provincial Building, located at 802 Sixth St. E, on July 16 and 17.

The clinic will provide free screening mammograms for eligible individuals aged 45 to 74 years old.

Primary Care Alberta outlines who should be screened on their Screening For Life website.

Appointments are required and can be booked by calling 1-800-667-0604.

Health officials say screening mammograms are one of the most effective tools for detecting breast cancer early, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

The Screen Test program helps improve access to breast cancer screening in Alberta communities where mammography services are not readily available through permanent facilities.

Eligible residents can also access screening through participating radiology clinics and some hospitals across the province.

Officials encourage individuals to speak with their health-care provider about their breast cancer risk and whether routine screening is appropriate.

The mobile clinic is operated as part of Alberta’s Screening for Life program, which aims to increase access to preventive cancer screening services in rural and underserved communities.

A schedule of all communities hosting the mobile mammography trailer is available here.
