A local business is marking 34 years in Medicine Hat by teaming up with Special Olympics athletes for a community celebration.

The event looks to support inclusion and raise awareness ahead of the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat.

Icy Mountain Water hosts the event on Wednesday at its Foundry Street SE location, featuring Special Olympics athletes, family activities, giveaways and fundraising initiatives in support of Special Olympics programs.

Athletes will be on site throughout the afternoon, meeting with members of the public.

“We are incredibly honoured to be welcoming Special Olympics athletes to Icy Mountain Water,” organizers Brandy Wilde said in a release.

“These athletes are such an important part of our community, and with the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games coming to Medicine Hat, we want to help create excitement, support and awareness leading up to the Games.”

The free event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include cake, popcorn, games, prize draws and giveaways. No purchase is required to attend.

The celebration will also serve as the launch of registration for the Solar Plunge, a fundraising event scheduled for Aug. 11 in the Icy Mountain Water parking lot. Participants will be invited to take a plunge into icy water while raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes.

Registration is also available online.

As part of the anniversary festivities, proceeds from special-edition stickers sold during the event will be donated to the Special Olympics. The company is also donating $1 from every stainless steel water bottle sold during its anniversary week, which runs until June 13.

The celebration takes place at Icy Mountain Water located at 1001 Foundry St. SE.
