Cypress Farm and Ranch Show returns to the Cypress Centre on Thursday

The Cypress Farm and Ranch Show returns to Medicine Hat this week, bringing agricultural equipment, services and rural lifestyle exhibitors to the Cypress Centre.

Show manager David Fiddler says the event begins Thursday at 9 a.m. with a two-day agricultural showcase focused on farm equipment and industry services.

There are guest speakers lined up each day of the event.

Entering the second year of the show, organizers say the event has grown to about 165 exhibitors, from roughly 130 last year.

Fiddler operates show management events across Western Canada and is a farmer based out of Swift Current, Sask.

He says the goal of the show is to connect producers in southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan with industry suppliers who may not typically reach the region.

Doing shows in other markets, Fiddler noticed a demand for something like this in Medicine Hat.

“We did a significant amount of research and found that in this region, there is more investment in land, cattle, and equipment than anywhere else in Canada. Higher than anywhere else in Alberta,” Fiddler said.

“There are large farms and large investments in the industry.”

He says that this makes the area a key market for exhibitors.

The Farm and Ranch Show runs Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the marketplace will run a third day on Saturday.

The marketplace will have a mix of rural lifestyle, food and retail vendors.

Organizers say the event is also running alongside the World Professional Chuckwagon Races, with ticket holders receiving free admission to the trade show. The general admission each day for others is $10 plus fees and tax, with those under 16 free. Tickets are available online or at the door.

Entertainment includes daily performances in a beer garden, with musician Rob Hudec scheduled to perform throughout the event.

A Thursday evening VIP performance by agricultural comedian Quick Dick McDick has sold out.

Fiddler says he expects the event to be an ongoing annual tradition in Medicine Hat.

The official show guide is available online.

The Medicine Hat Health Foundation is also running an online 50/50 raffle alongside the Cypress Farm & Ranch Show.

Funds raised will support the foundations and help fund critical equipment, programs and patient care in the area.

The draw launched on Wednesday and runs until Monday, with the winner announced on Tuesday, June 16.
