Town counters by saying sign is 'privately leased'

Taber billboard garners reaction by both sides of ‘separatist’ debate

A billboard sign in the town of Taber, that is fueling the ‘separatist’ debate in our province, continues to gain quite a bit of attention, albeit negative, in some cases.

In a Facebook posting, the town’s administration countered by stating it has nothing to do with the billboard.

The Town of Taber is aware of public questions and concerns regarding an advertisement currently displayed on a privately owned and operated sign within the community.

The sign is located on property leased from the Town by a private business. However, the sign itself is privately owned and operated.

The Town of Taber did not create, purchase, approve, endorse, or fund the advertisement and does not approve, review, select, or control the advertising content displayed on the sign.

The views expressed in the advertisement are those of the advertiser and do not represent the official position of the Town of Taber or Council.

The Town added it has contacted the leaseholder with the concerns raised, but it says any future questions or concerns should be directed to the sign operator or advertiser.
