City of Medicine Hat launches portable skate ramp initiative

Jun 4, 2026 | 2:07 PM

The City of Medicine Hat’s Parks and Recreation department will install a temporary portable skate ramp at the recently rebuilt East Glen Outdoor Rink starting on Friday.

The initiative offers portable ramps at two different locations each summer in areas that aren’t near existing skateboarding amenities.

The City says the ramp will allow residents to enjoy more versatile, year-round use at outdoor rink locations around the community.

“We’re excited to have these ramps join our two permanent skate parks in Kin Coulee and NE Crescent Heights and a skate spot in Saamis Rotary Park as offerings for the rapidly growing skating community in Medicine Hat,” Project Manager Jeremy Patton said in a statement.

“Portable amenities like these increase the public’s access to new recreational opportunities and maximize existing recreational spaces,” he added.

“We look forward to what the inaugural year of this service will bring.”

During June and July, the ramps will stay at the East Glen Rink. Then, in August and September, the City will move the ramps to the Heald Rink in Riverside.

The City adds that the public will have an opportunity to influence locations for 2027 once the 2026 season is complete
