Armstrong hired as new coach of Medicine Hat College Rattlers Women’s Volleyball team

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Women’s Volleyball team has a new head coach.

Taking over is Marshall Armstrong, a long-time resident of Medicine Hat, who has made an impact in volleyball development in the community.

He has spent the past 10 years with the Southeast Alberta Volleyball Club (SEAVC).

During the 2024-25 season, he guided the SEAVC Rattlers Gold U17 Girls to a fifth-place provincial finish at the club level.

Armstrong also led the Crescent Heights High School Junior Varsity girls’ team to a second-place provincial finish in 2025.

Rattlers Athletics says that Armstrong’s history of developing players at both the high school and club levels provides a solid foundation for transitioning into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).

“Medicine Hat College and Rattlers Athletics are excited to welcome Marshall into the role as Head Coach of the Rattlers WVB program,” Manager of Athletics and Recreation Terry Ballard said in a statement.

“With Marshall’s many years of volleyball coaching experience and with his local connections with the SEAVC volleyball club, we look forward to watching Marshall in action in developing the student-athletes of the WVB program and contributing to the success of Rattlers Athletics.”

Armstrong looks forward to the opportunity.

“I’m excited for the new challenge and for the chance to coach this team,” Armstrong said in a statement.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity to get to know each player and discover what we can build together at the ACAC.”

Armstrong takes over a roster of 17 players that will include seven rookies for the 2026-27 season.

Practices for the women’s team begin in late August.

The Rattlers women’s record in 2025-26 was 2-17, which had them at the bottom of the ACAC.

Something they will look to improve on under their new head coach.

The team last qualified for the ACAC playoffs during the 2012-2013 season, and last medalled in 2011-12 with an ACAC Silver.
