CALGARY — Quarterback P.J. Walker has informed the Calgary Stampeders he’s retiring from football, the CFL club announced Thursday.

Walker signed with Calgary in October 2024 and spent his time with the club on the practice roster. The 31-year-old American served as the Stampeders backup quarterback last season behind starter Vernon Adams Jr., making one start in the 13 games he suited up for.

Walker also spent time with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts (2017-19), Carolina Panthers (2020-22), Chicago Bears (2023), Cleveland Browns (2023) and Seattle Seahawks (2024) as well as the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks (2019) before coming to Canada.

The Stampeders also released Canadian linebacker Nicky Farinaccio. American defensive backs Brady Breeze and Lance Robinson both retired.

Farinaccio, a ’25 fourth-round pick, had three defensive tackles and two special-teams stops in three games last season. Breeze joined the Stampers midway through last season and started one of the four games he appeared in while Robinson made starts in both of his ’25 appearances.

Veteran offensive lineman Peter Godber announces CFL retirement

OTTAWA — Peter Godber is calling it a career.

The Ottawa Redblacks’ veteran Canadian offensive lineman retired Thursday.

“Growing up, I attended CFL games every year with my dad, so having the chance to be part of this league truly was a dream come true,” Godber said in a statement. “It’s been an honour to compete in front of such passionate fans over the past eight years.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent three outstanding organizations: the B.C. Lions, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and the Ottawa Redblacks. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and everyone who supported me along the way, as well as the support staff, training staff, equipment staff, surgeons, and all those who work behind the scenes to make it all possible.”

Godber, 31, appeared in 11 regular-season games with Ottawa last season. The six-foot-three, 300-pound Toronto native appeared in 82 career regular-season games with Ottawa (2025), Saskatchewan (2023-24) and B.C. (2018-22).

The Redblacks also released Canadian offensive lineman Dariusz Bladek. The six-foot-four 303-pound spent the last two seasons with Ottawa after spending time with Saskatchewan Roughriders (2017-19) and Toronto Argonauts (2021-2023).

McManus, Jauch earn new titles with Winnipeg Blue Bombers

WINNIPEG — Danny McManus and Jim Jauch have new job titles with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

McManus is now the club’s senior assistant general manager while Jauch becomes the assistant GM. McManus began his CFL career as a quarterback with the Bombers and joined the club’s front office Dec. 2, 2013.

The Bombers hired Jauch on Jan. 10, 2025. Jauch’s father, Ray, was a former Winnipeg player and head coach and the junior Jauch played five CFL seasons with Calgary, Edmonton and Hamilton before working in personnel with the San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Toronto Argonauts, and B.C. Lions.

Winnipeg added Canadian defensive lineman Carter Hooper to its roster. Also added were linebackers Charles-Elliot Bouliane and Brody Clark, receiver Joshua Jack and tight end Dante Daniels, all of whom were taken by the Bombers in the ’26 CFL draft Tuesday night.

The Bombers also transferred running back J.J. Taylor and offensive lineman Ben Dooley, both Americans, to the retired list.
