Apr 24, 2026 | 9:22 AM

Wrestlers from all over the country are in northern Alberta this weekend.

Grande Prairie is hosting the 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships for three age divisions, U19, U17, and U15, from April 24-26.

There are seven Medicine Hat wrestlers competing.

The Medicine Hat Hawks are represented by Asher, Hannah, and Isaac Streifel.

All are competing in both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman categories.

Asher is competing in the U15 men’s division, Hannah in the U17 women’s division, and Isaac in the U18 men’s division.

Representing the Medicine Hat Wrestling Club are Aubrey Kay, Brooklynn Huber, Nero Jensen, and Oliver Thomson.

All are competing in the Freestyle category.

Aubrey Kay and Brooklyn Huber are in the U15 women’s division, and in the men’s division are Nero Jensen in U17, and Oliver Thomson for U15.

Wrestling Canada Lutte CEO Tamara Medwidsky says these championships are a celebration of sport’s future.

“Showcasing the next generation of Canadian wrestling talent in the U19, U17, and U15 divisions,” Medwidsky said.

“We are grateful to the Grande Prairie community for their outstanding support and cannot wait to see the action begin!”

The event features several competitors who have already made a name for themselves and represented Canada at international competitions.

Wrestling gets underway at 9 a.m. on all three competition days.
