“If we just do the one award, it’s somebody who kind of shines in all areas,” she added.

“It could be somebody who has their own business, or somebody who volunteers at the food bank, somebody who shines in categories that other people could see.”

The future categories, Lees said, would include community impact, emerging leadership, and lifetime achievement.

“Just so that we can hit more areas of expertise and have more people recognized within the community instead of just one person, it would be three,” Lees said.

“Then obviously we would expect more nominations with that.”

An award ceremony later this spring will celebrate women within the community, featuring a panel discussion, the announcement of the 2026 Inspire Award winner, and a catered lunch.

It takes place at Higdon Hall at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Grounds on June 5, 2026.

Ticket sales for the event are not yet available, but will be open to the public.

A group of judges will use a set of criteria to rank each nominee, with the highest score determining the winner.
