The third weekend of April is here, and the weather will be a little cooler than usual for this time of year before warming up. There are lots of indoor and outdoor activities in Medicine Hat to keep you busy.

Friday will see a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon with a 30 percent chance of rain showers or flurries late in the afternoon and into the evening. Wind gusts up to 50 km/h through the afternoon and into the evening, with a high of 4 C. An evening low of -4 C. The wind chill brings it to -9 C overnight.

Saturday is forecast to be mainly sunny with a high of 12 C and a morning wind chill of -9 C. With the evening clear and a low of -2 C.

On Sunday, things warm up with a sunny sky and a high of 19 C. The evening shows a clear sky and a low of 5 C.

📚 Activities at the Medicine Hat Public Library

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

On Friday at the Medicine Hat Public Library is Book Burglar Games.

Timed competition with prizes among those 19 and older from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Online registration is required at www.mhpl.info/register

The Busy Bee Playgroup for ages one to three takes place at the Medicine Hat Public Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

It’s a drop-in event where little ones can explore, create and get curious with loose parts play.

Some fun, age-appropriate materials for kids to move, stack, tinker, and play.

Children must have an adult caregiver present with them at all times during this program.

♣️ Game Night at the Kiwanis!

FRIDAY

The Kiwanis Centre hosts “Game Night at the Kiwanis!” every first and third Friday of the month.

Bring your board games, card games, or other tabletop games and enjoy the space to play.

If you bring only yourself, you can play one of the games kept in the centre or join in with someone else.

Entry is $5, with cans of pop and bags of chips available for $1.

Participants under 16 years of age are required to have a parent or a guardian present.

All funds stay with the Gas City Kiwanis Centre to help keep things running and in good repair.

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at 826 11th St. SE in Medicine Hat.

📽 Rise Up at the Monarch

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

A new documentary celebrating the Rise Up Hot Air Balloon Festival will premiere this weekend at the Monarch Theatre.

Produced by a B.C. company, the film draws on more than 120 hours of footage to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the festival and the work of Our Collective Journey.

Screenings run Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available online at tixx.ca and at the door, pending availability.

🏒 Brooks Bandits Playoffs

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Brooks Bandits host the Sherwood Park Crusaders for a pair of games this weekend to start the second round of the BCHL playoffs.

Games on Friday and Saturday at the Centennial Regional Arena start at 7 p.m.

🔋 Free compost giveaway and battery recycling

SATURDAY

This Saturday, the City of Medicine Hat hosts the first of three free compost giveaway days in 2026.

It takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1453 Hutchinson Ave SE.

This year, you can also recycle your used household batteries.

You can bring a shovel and a container and grab up to 10 gallons of compost per household.

Additional days are Saturday, May 9 and Saturday, Sept. 12, at the same time and place.

🎸Lee Brice, Brett Kissel and Grace Taylor at Co-op Place

SATURDAY

Country artist Lee Brice is set to take the stage in Medicine Hat at Co-op Place, bringing his chart-topping hits to local fans.

He is joined by Alberta native Brett Kissel and Grace Tyler.

Kissel, a platinum-selling Canadian country artist, and rising singer Tyler are featured as special guests on the tour, appearing alongside Brice at multiple stops across the country.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

🎸Spring Fling Dance at Redcliff

SATURDAY

The German Canadian Harmony Club in Redcliff is hosting a Spring Dance on Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Country dance band the Trouble Makin’ Troubadours will be playing the show.

Tickets are $20 available at LaurieAnne’s Fashions in the Co-op Mall or at the Door.

🌎 Earth Day at Interpretive Centre

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program, in partnership with the City of Medicine Hat Parks and Recreation department, will host its fifth annual Earth Day event at Police Point Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 18.

This year’s theme, “Waste Not, Want Not: Actions for a Circular Economy,” focuses on reducing overconsumption and promoting environmental conservation.

Attendees can pick up an Earth Day passport at the Nature Centre and visit activity stations throughout the park to collect stamps for a chance to win prizes. Participating organizations, including the Saamis Rotary Club, will host interactive displays.

A barbecue will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for those who take part in activities or the city-wide Litter Blitz, while supplies last.

The event is held ahead of the global Earth Day, which promotes environmental protection and sustainability.

🌱 Seedy Sunday at Root Cellar

SUNDAY

Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub, in partnership with the Community Food Connections Association, will host its 11th annual Seedy Sunday on April 19.

The free, family-friendly event will feature seed swapping, gardening presentations and demonstrations, along with door prizes.

Attendees are encouraged to bring seeds to share, while organizers are also seeking volunteers and presenters.

🌼 Arcade Plaza hosts Bloom & Grow Market

SUNDAY

The Bloom & Grow Market will take place on April 19 at Arcade Plaza in downtown Medicine Hat, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as a six-hour community event.

The market will feature a variety of small, home-based and service businesses, creating space for local vendors to showcase their work and connect with residents.

Organizers say the event is focused on building community, with families encouraged to attend and support local entrepreneurs.

🎙Comedy Misfits Stand Up Tour 2026

SUNDAY

The Comedy Misfits Stand-Up Tour 2026 is in Medicine Hat at the Silver Buckle on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

It Features Chris Basso, Nina Wilder, and Brett McCrindle.

The lineup from Vancouver Island has been seen on Yuk Yuk’s, Just For Laughs, Laugh Out Loud, and more.

Tickets are $20 in advance online, or $25 at the door.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

NONE

The Medicine Hat Tigers will have a break until they start their Eastern Conference Championship best-of-seven series with the Prince Albert Raiders the following weekend.

Games scheduled for Prince Albert include two Fridays, a Saturday, and a Tuesday, with April 24 and 25, and May 1 and 5.

Games set for Medicine Hat are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday, with April 28 and 29, and May 3.

Tickets for games three and four in Medicine Hat are on sale on Monday at the Co-op Place Box Office.

Sales for season ticket holders start at 9 a.m., and the public at noon.
