Medicine Hat firefighters hold annual rooftop campout fundraiser for muscular dystrophy

Apr 10, 2026 | 12:56 PM

The Medicine Hat Firefighters Charitable Foundation is hosting its 17th annual Rooftop Campout fundraiser in support of muscular dystrophy from April 10 to 12 at Fire Station No. 2 on Trans-Canada Way S.E.

Firefighters Andrew Archer and Cale Schafer will camp out on the station rooftop throughout the three-day event, collecting donations from the public below.

Motorists are invited to enter the station’s front parking lot to fill the donation boot, and residents are encouraged to stop by over the weekend to show their support.

The rooftop campout is part of a long-standing tradition among firefighters across the country, who partner with muscular dystrophy organizations to support families and individuals living with the disorders.

Muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic disorders that cause progressive muscle weakness and loss of muscle mass over time, affecting mobility and overall physical function.

Firefighters are raising funds so they can make the lives of those with the disorder more manageable, as muscular dystrophy does not yet have a cure.

Foundation director Dylan Gustafson said the fundraiser is aimed at raising both money and awareness for Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders.

All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the roughly 50,000 Canadians affected by those conditions, helping fund programs, services and research to improve quality of life.

Donations can be made online at the Medicine Hat Firefighters Charitable Foundation’s website.
