City Center Vibrancy Program aims to relieve costs for downtown upgrades in Medicine Hat
A city program aimed at revitalizing the downtown core is helping spur investment and build confidence among business and property owners.
The City Centre Vibrancy Program, now in its second year, is designed to address the high cost of upgrading older commercial buildings, as officials say is one of the biggest barriers to redevelopment.
The city says many downtown properties require significant structural, electrical and exterior improvements, with costs often reaching into the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, making projects difficult to justify for owners.
Through a combination of grants and financing, the program helps offset those expenses and encourages investment that might otherwise be delayed or not proceed at all.
