Apr 10, 2026 | 11:51 PM

Bryce Pickford scored the final two goals of the game for the Medicine Hat Tigers, including the overtime winner, to give the Tabbies a 1-0 series lead over the Calgary Hitmen.

The game-winning goal came with exactly one minute left in the first overtime frame on the Tigers 42nd shot of the night.

Pickford restored the Tigers one-goal lead early in the third period on the powerplay, before Hitmen forward Ethan Moore tied the game at two nearly ten minutes later.

Kade Stengrim opened the scoring late in the second period, but the Tigers would only lead for 46 seconds before Kale Dach deflected a point shot past Tigers netminder Carter Casey to knot the game at one.

Stengrim believed he’d opened the scoring earlier in the period, but the goal was called back due to a hand pass.

Hitmen netminder Eric Tu was outstanding despite the loss, making 39 saves in the defeat.

Casey was equal to the task for the Tigers, making 27 saves, including a breakaway stop early in overtime on Julien Maze.

Game 2 goes tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m inside Co-op Place, where the Tigers will aim to take a 2-0 series lead.
