Here’s what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: March 13-15

As we approach the middle of March, spring is getting near, but the snow remains in the forecast this weekend.

Friday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries in the early afternoon and a high of -4 C and a wind chill of -9 C. The evening clouds, periods of snow beginning overnight, low -7 C, and the wind chill near -13 C.

Saturday is forecast to have two centimetres of snow with wind gusts up to 40 km/h in the morning. Temperatures are expected to be -10 C in the afternoon. Wind chill -12 C in the morning and -18 C in the afternoon. In the evening, clearing and a low of -19 C.

On Sunday, Sunny with a high of -2 C, and clear in the evening with a low of -9 C.

🚎 Haunted Medicine Hat Trolley Tour

FRIDAY

As part of Friday the 13th, the Medicine Hat Trolley will give residents a chance to explore local history with a spooky twist.

The Friday the 13th Haunted Medicine Hat Trolley Tour takes place from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, offering riders a guided trip through the city’s landmarks and legends aboard the trolley.

The relaxed evening ride highlights historic locations and well-known local stories, blending history and folklore in an atmospheric but family-friendly experience.

Seating is limited, and it’s recommended to book ahead.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers start a home-and-home series with the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday night at the Visitlethbridge.com Arena, as the teams return to Co-op Place Saturday night.

Puck drop both nights is at 7 p.m.

The radio broadcast on Wild 94-5 starts with the pre-game on Friday at 6:45 p.m. and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Will Bryant will have the call on Friday and is joined by Lance Doll on colour commentary on Saturday.

🌄 Medicine Hat Interpretive Program events

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program invites the public to take part in multiple events taking place this weekend, including the Icebreaker Nature Walk, Pokémon Go Nature Walk, and Boxes for Bumblebees.

Friday, the Icebreaker Nature Walk is a guided walk that explores the role river ice plays in local ecosystems, running from 3 to 4 p.m. at Police Point Park and is free to attend.

On Saturday, a Pokémon Go Nature Walk takes will have participants explore the real-world inspirations behind Pokémon while playing Pokémon Go from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Echodale Regional Park. Registration is required, and the event may be rescheduled if temperatures drop below –10 C or if it snows.

The weekend wraps up Sunday with Boxes for Bumblebees, a workshop at the Nature Centre in Police Point Park, where participants build nest boxes to support native bees as part of a project by the Alberta Native Bee Council. Registration is required for this program as spaces are limited.

📽 Spring Movie Night at the MHPL

FRIDAY

The Medicine Hat Public Library is hosting Tic Tac Presents: Spring Movie Night in its theatre on Friday night. Doors are open from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and then locked for safety until 9 p.m.

It’s open to teens aged 13-19, who will vote on one of four different movies to watch.

Movies include A Bug’s Life, Antz, Bee Movie, and Turbo.

Galaxy Cinema has also donated popcorn.

📽 Movies at the Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

From bull riding to princesses, the Monarch Theatre is showing a movie each day this weekend.

Friday night, at 7 p.m., 8 Seconds will be on the big screen, telling the tale of the 1987 PRCA Bull Riding World Champion, Lane Frost.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., a family-friendly film, The Princess Diaries, will be the Matinee showing.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, The Flintstones will be screened to display the live-action classic comedy.

Tickets are $5 Cash, with concessions available.

The door opens one hour before each movie.

🏋 Community Lift

SATURDAY

Legacy Athletic, located at 731 Queen St. SE, is hosting a Community Lift on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It’s the first-ever hosted by the gym, and there is no membership required and no fees.

💃 Medicine Hat College 4th Annual Round Dance

SATURDAY

Medicine Hat College is set to host its 4th annual Round Dance in the campus gymnasium.

The event is hosted in partnership with the Firekeepers Women’s Society, Miywasin Friendship Centre and Saamis Employment & Training Association, celebrating Indigenous culture through drumming, singing and dancing.

Included in the event is a Midnight Lunch, giveaways, an Owl Dance Contest, and a Ribbon Skirt Contest.

The public is welcome to attend the Saturday event, with the Pipe Ceremony set for 11 a.m., and the Round Dance scheduled for 6 p.m.

🍀St. Paddy’s Party

SATURDAY

The Silver Buckle is getting a three-day head start on the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations as many establishments add green dye to beverages. Doors open at 11 a.m. There will be live music from Danczilla in the evening.

🎸 Music at Liquid

SATURDAY

Liquid Concert and Event Venue will host Greg Herman’s Volume 6 Album Release on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The event also features Kaylyn Legare, Tim Herman, and Kyle Harmon.

🎸 Music at Casa Amigos

SATURDAY

Casa Amigos in downtown Medicine Hat has live music Saturday night starting at 8 p.m.

Taking the stage are three different bands with their own unique sound: Lethbridge’s Midnight Channel with a jazz sound, Medicine Hat’s Sex Cowboy with an alternative pop sound, and Medicine Hat’s Postal Code with an Indie Rock sound.

🍍 SpongeBob Musical at the Esplanade

SUNDAY

Students from St. Mary’s School are set to present The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Based on the popular SpongeBob SquarePants TV series, the musical follows SpongeBob and his friends as they work together to save their home in Bikini Bottom after a volcano threatens to destroy the undersea home.

The all-ages production features music, colourful characters and a story centred on friendship and teamwork.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs continue their fight in the Heritage Junior Hockey League finals against the Red Deer Vipers for game two of the series.

The Cubs face the Vipers at home in the Kinplex Arena on Sunday.

Puck drop is at 4:30 p.m.

Game one is on Saturday in Red Deer.
