Medicine Hat Tigers host Red Deer Rebels in lone home game of four-in-five

Mar 6, 2026 | 12:29 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers are back at home tonight as they host their Central Division rival, the Red Deer Rebels, in the sixth of eight meetings this season.

The Tabbies enter winners of eight straight and have points in their last 12, dating back to February 4th.

Medicine Hat sits just two wins away from clinching their second consecutive Central Division title for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

The Tigers also sit in a tie for top spot in the Eastern Conference with the Prince Albert Raiders, who hold the tiebreaker over Medicine Hat.

The Tigers are led by the two leading point getters in the entire Canadian Hockey League in twin phenoms Liam and Markus Ruck.

Liam sits second on the team in goals with 39, two behind the Tigers captain, Bryce Pickford.

Pickford recorded his third hat-trick of the season in Wednesday night’s 6-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Pickford’s 41 goals are the second most by a CHL defenseman this century.

Only Marc-Andre Bergeron of the QMJHL’s Shawnigan Cataractes had more during the 2000-01 season when he netted 42.

The WHL record for goals in a single-season by a defenseman is 50, held by Lawrence Sacharuk of the Saskatoon Blades, who set the record back in the 1971-72 season.

Meanwhile, the Red Deer Rebels enter in a dog-fight for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Rebels currently occupy the Conference’s final playoff spot and hold a one-point lead over the Moose Jaw Warriors while also holding one-game in hand.

Red Deer’s postseason surge has been led by the emergence of 2007-born netminder Matthew Kondro, who has taken over the crease for the Rebels.

Kondro has started 17 of the last 20 games for Red Deer and has been excellent.

Since February 1st, Kondro has compiled a 7-5-0-0 record along with a 2.75 GAA and 0.918 SV%.

Despite that, Peyton Shore will get the start tonight for the Rebels.

Shore has an 0-5-0-0 record over his last five starts, along with a 5.94 GAA and a 0.826 SV%.

Puck drop from inside Co-op Place is slated for 7:00 p.m. MST.

The pre-game show begins at 6:30 p.m. on WILD 94.5 FM.
