Medicine Hat Police Service to highlight tips during Fraud Prevention Month

Mar 3, 2026 | 12:03 PM

March is Fraud Prevention Month in Canada, recognized now for 22 years in the country.

The national crime prevention initiative is dedicated to educating the public on how to recognize, report, and prevent fraud.

The Medicine Hat Police Service said that fraud continues to impact thousands of Canadians every year, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost nationwide. Medicine Hat residents are also victims, losing millions of dollars annually to a wide range of scams.

Fraudsters use many tactics, and these schemes continue to evolve and become increasingly sophisticated, according to the police.

They say the most effective way to avoid being a victim is to stay informed, remain cautious, and be skeptical of offers or situations that seem too good to be true.

Throughout Fraud Prevention Month, the Medicine Hat Police Service Community Support Unit will be sharing information and practical tips to help residents recognize common frauds and scams and learn how to protect themselves on social media.
