Cypress Hill Interprovincial Park will be the home to the Medicine Hat Massacre Adventure Race on May 9, 2026.

Registration opened earlier this week for the nine-hour endurance event.

It is set to draw athletes from across Canada to southeastern Alberta.

Participants will compete in teams of two, navigating remote terrain with only a map and compass.

The challenge includes mountain biking, paddling, and trekking through the park’s landscapes, all while collecting checkpoints to earn points.

Race organizer Paul MacKenzie said in a statement that it isn’t just a race, it’s a tradition.

“For nearly 20 years, the Medicine Hat Massacre has showcased the natural beauty and history of Cypress Hills while supporting the community,” MacKenzie said.

Funds raised will help support the Southeastern Alberta Search and Rescue (SEASAR) and the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub, which is Medicine Hat’s food bank.

Funds for SEASAR’s search and rescue operations will ensure crews remain equipped and ready to respond in emergencies.

MacKenzie adds that the race makes a great goal for New Year’s resolutions.
