Three former Medicine Hat Tigers named to Olympic rosters

Three former Medicine Hat Tigers will represent their countries at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

Competing in men’s ice hockey will be goaltender Mads Sogaard with Denmark, and a pair of defencemen, with Kristians Rubins representing Latvia and Tomas Kundratek playing for Czechia.

The 25-year-old Sogaard is a member of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. He has yet to play a game with the team this season, only seeing backup duty, but has been in the net for 15 games with the AHL’s Belleville Senators.

Sogaard played two seasons with the Tigers from 2018 to 2020.

Rubins, 28, is a member of HC Plzen in Czechia. He has yet to play a game this season due to injury.

Rubins was a member of the Tigers for two seasons from 2016 to 2018.

The 36-year-old Kundratek is also in Czechia playing for HC Ocelari Trinec. He has five assists over 32 games this season.

Kundratek played with the Tigers for a pair of seasons from 2008 to 2010.

The men’s ice hockey competition begins on Feb. 11 and will conclude with the gold medal game on Feb. 22.

The 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy begin on Feb. 6 and conclude on Feb. 22.
