Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: January 2-4

It’s the first weekend of 2026, and according to Environment Canada, a yellow warning for fog has been issued for Medicine Hat and the area.

The advisory states that areas of dense fog continue, and visibility will suddenly be reduced at times.

The advisory urges the public to be prepared for near-zero visibility and advises drivers to allow extra time when travelling, turn on their lights, slow down and keep a safe following distance.

Friday is mainly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of flurries and a risk of freezing drizzle with a high of -7 C with a wind chill of -12 in the afternoon. Visibility is expected to improve in the afternoon, but foggy conditions will return in the evening.

Saturday is projected to have a mix of sun and cloud with a risk of freezing drizzle in the morning. Daytime highs of -6 with a wind chill of -19 in the morning and -12 in the afternoon, with overnight lows of -7. Foggy conditions will return in the evening and then persist until the afternoon

Sunday is expected to have a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -6 during the day and a low of -9 at night.

🎲 Game Night at Kiwanis

FRIDAY

The Gas City Kiwanis Centre Society is hosting the first of two game nights this month from 6 to 10 p.m.

Kiwanis is encouraging the public to bring board games, card games, or other tabletop games to enjoy with lots of space to play.

Participants under the age of 16 are required to have a parent or guardian present.

Entry for the family-friendly event is just $5, and cans of pop and bags of chips are available for $1.

🎵 Duo Fratelli & Friends Welcome 2026

FRIDAY

St Barnabas Anglican Church is hosting Duo Fratelli & Friends for a wonderful hour of classical music at 7 p.m.

The small concert features Soren on viola, Laec Lorentzen on cello, Henk Hak and Doug Pickel on violin, and Carol Fedoruk on piano, with special guest Ana Espinosa on cello.

The program includes works by Bach, Popper, Haydn and Elizondo.

Admission is payable by donation.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers look to extend their current winning streak of 13, as they host the Moose Jaw Warriors at Co-op Place tonight and head to Moose Jaw Saturday to face the Warriors again.

Will Bryant will have the call for the radio broadcast of both games on Wild 94.5, starting with the pre-game tonight at 6:45 p.m., when he is joined on colour by Lance Doll, and Saturday at 4:45 p.m.

🎨 Badlands Collective $50 Tattoo Walk

SATURDAY

The annual Badlands Collective $50 Tattoo Walk is hosted by Wanderlust Ink Bar, Blush Ink and Lumen Animae Tattoos.

From 12 to 8 p.m. at 941 South Railway St. SE #6. $50 tattoos with over a hundred flash designs are available.

🛼 Naughty vs Nice: Roller Derby Games

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

The Gas City Roller Derby Association is gearing up for the annual Naughty vs Nice games at the Cypress Centre Pavilion, with the doors opening at 8 a.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The event features several competition levels from Junior Level 2 to Adult Elite.

Entry fee is $20.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs have also been racking up the wins this season, much like the Tigers, and put their 12-game winning streak to the test this weekend with a pair of home games.

On Saturday, the High River Flyers are in the city for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.

Then on Sunday, the Ponoka Stampeders are the opponent with a 3 p.m. start time.

Both games are at the Kinplex.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Day at Medicine Hat Public Library

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Public Library is hosting Family Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors can explore the Co-op Community Developmental Play Space in the Children’s Library, Big Blue Blocks in the Honour Currie Room, LEGO in the Legion Room, or enjoy a family-friendly film in the theatre.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or other adult caregiver at all times.
