The Town of Taber is looking to inspire community pride and get some money to help repair the Community Centre.

It has announced that it will be entering the Community Centre for Kraft Hockeyville when nominations open on January 1.

Municipalities from across Canada will compete for a grand prize of $250,000 for arena upgrades and the opportunity to host an NHL Pre-Season game.

The runner-up will get $100,000 for arena upgrades, while 11 provincial and territorial winners will receive $50,000 to upgrade their arena.

Entries are graded using an “arena score,” which is based on public feedback. Residents are encouraged to send in written or video story submissions, photos of the arena, encouraging notes, and reactions to the submissions.

Significant damages were cause to the Community Centre in Taber on Dec. 17 after an explosion occurred in the small ice arena’s Zamboni room.

The Town of Taber is urging everyone to help rebuild the Community Centre by taking part in the contest.

“We heard the suggestions,” reads a social media post from the Town of Taber. “We’ve felt the support from our community and our neighbours after the explosion at our Community Centre. And now, we’re doing it. But we can’t do it without you.”

“Our rink needs it now more than ever. This is our moment to show what hockey means in Taber.”

The nomination period for Kraft Hockeyville runs from January 1 to March 1, 2026.

The provincial and territorial winners will be announced on March 14, while the winner will be finalized on April 4.
