Medicine Hat Police search for a suspect facing charges of armed robbery and assault with a weapon

A member of the Medicine Hat Police Service patrol section responded to a report of a personal robbery beneath the Allowance Avenue overpass at about 7:50 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2025.

Police say an individual had stolen a backpack containing personal items from a 36-year-old man.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Matthew James Perini, who is facing charges of armed robbery and assault with a weapon, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Businesses in the 900 Block of South Railway Street are requested by the police to review their closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

Motorists travelling on South Railway at the time of the incident are also encouraged to review their dash-cam recordings for relevant information.
