Two Medicine Hat men arrested following disturbance involving weapons

A pair of Medicine Hat men were arrested after Medicine Hat Police Service responded to a disturbance involving weapons in the zero block of Ninth Street Southwest on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, at approximately 11:40 a.m.

With assistance from the Criminal Investigation Section, officers obtained a residential search warrant for the premises.

The search led to the recovery of previously reported stolen property, a loaded short 12-gauge shotgun, and a machete.

As a result of the investigation, Ghulam Faqeri, 49, of Medicine Hat, was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Nickolas Petke, 35, of Medicine Hat, was charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, disobeying a court order, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a licence, using a firearm while committing an offence.

Both individuals were held for judicial interim release hearings.

Faqeri was remanded into custody pending his appearance in court on Dec. 18, 2025.

Petke was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 23, 2025.
