Two men face firearms charges after Medicine Hat Police respond to suspicious activity

A pair of men face firearms charges after Medicine Hat Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle with a man sleeping behind the steering wheel in the area of Dunmore Road and 21 Street Southeast on Dec. 12, 2025.

Officers arrived at the location and identified a 58-year-old man, Clinton Mayer, in the driver’s seat, an unnamed 64-year-old female sitting in the passenger seat, and a 62-year-old man, Daniel Giurissevich, in the rear seat.

Police say they determined that Giurissevich was wanted on several outstanding warrants; during his arrest, officers discovered a bolt-action rifle in his jacket.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the following items:

– Weatherby .338 Lapua bolt-action rifle with scope

– Forty-four rounds of .338 Lapua ammunition

– Carton of black stock cigarettes

– Various knives

Following the investigation, Clinton Mayer was charged with:

– Breach of a release order (three counts)

– Unauthorized possession of a firearm

– Possession of a firearm in a vehicle

– Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

Daniel Giurissevich was charged with:

– Unauthorized possession of a firearm

– Possession of a firearm in a vehicle

– Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public

– Possession of a weapon contrary to an order (three counts)

Both individuals were held for a judicial interim release hearing and remanded into custody, pending a court appearance on Dec. 16, 2025.
