Two people have been apprehended in connection with an investigation into drug trafficking.

Earlier this month, members of the Crime Suppression Team looked into reports about suspicious activity at a west side residence.

They reportedly observed activities consistent with drug trafficking at a home on the 700 block of Columbia Boulevard West, as well as at a home on the 200 block of St. James Blvd North.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, search warrants were executed at both locations.

A man was arrested without incident during a targeted traffic stop and was allegedly in possession of just over $1,700 in cash.

During the first search on the north side, another three men were arrested without incident. LPS claims to have seized a 12-gauge shotgun, nearly two ounces of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.

Inside the west side property, officers reportedly confiscated more than $8,900 in cash.

Santino Tong Mawien, 35, of Calgary, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and unlawful possession of a firearm. Mawien is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

Joseph Kual, 35, of Calgary, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Kual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 22, 2026.

Two other people were released without charges.
