Medicine Hat teams take home gold and silver during Ed Horvath Tournament

Three Medicine Hat teams reached the finals in their age categories during the Ed Horvath Ringette Tournament from Dec. 5-7 in Medicine Hat.

Bringing home gold in the Open category were the Open Smash with a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Rattlers.

Silver medals went to Medicine Hat’s U16B Mustangs and the U14B Mustangs.

The U16B Mustang team lost a close 7-6 game to Bow View.

A buzzer-beating goal with less than a second remaining sealed the win for the Calgary team.

The back-and-forth game had the score tied up four times throughout the contest.

The U14B Mustangs team lost 6-5 to the Regina Blazers.

Up by a 4-1 in the first period, the Mustangs were in good shape early, before the Blazers responded with four straight to take a 5-4 lead.

A shorthanded marker by the Mustangs tied it up at five before the end of the first.

The next goal would come late in the third period, as the Blazers took the win.

Several other Medicine Hat teams also competed at the tournament.

The Open Force dropped a 3-2 decision to the Cochrane Storm in the third-place game.

The U19B Mustangs lost their semi-final game to Regina 5-3. Buffalo Plains would beat Regina 5-1 in the finals.

The U12A Mustangs were winless through four contests. St. Albert took top spot in the U12A category with a 6-1 win over the Calgary South Sparx.

Winning the U12B event was Bow View over Indus 8-3. The Medicine Hat U12B Mustangs dropped their four games.

Indus took top spot in the U10 Step 3 category with a 6-2 win over Regina. The Medicine Hat team was winless through four games.
