Medicine Hat Police Service resumes mailing photo radar and parking tickets

Dec 8, 2025 | 12:38 PM

The Medicine Hat Police Service has resumed mailing automated traffic enforcement (photo radar) violation and parking tickets as of Dec. 8, 2025.

MHPS said that tickets had not been mailed out since June 24, 2025, due to the uncertainty surrounding the postal strike.

Automated traffic enforcement and parking tickets will always be mailed or delivered to the address for the registered owner of the vehicle ticketed.

Requests for payments will never be sent over text message.

Insp. Joe West with the Medicine Hat Police Service said that the earliest court date for tickets mailed out would be March 13, 2026.

“There’s the usual time frame to pay them. So it’s based on the date that they’re mailed out, not the violation date,” Insp. West said.

“On Nov. 27, we received a notice from the Government of Alberta that there was an agreement that Canada Post would deliver the summonses,” he added.

“One of the other options was to send them out by private courier. We were in the process of getting a court order to do that. [When] we were getting that completed, we got the word from the government that Canada Post would consider [these] as critical mail and get it out there.”

Tickets can be paid in person at the Alberta Registry Office or Provincial Courthouse or online at traffictickets.alberta.ca.
