Cypress County expanding emergency services with two positions

Nov 26, 2025 | 1:14 PM

Cypress County is hiring for two new positions in its emergency services department.

One position being added is a second Community Peace Officer to offer better service and coverage to the County.

Reeve Dan Hamilton said that with one peace officer, you always have some vacant days without anyone to offer the type of enforcement they do.

“The thought process behind it is to get more days out there, more coverage for our ratepayers. They deserve to have somebody around,” Hamilton said.

“We’ve needed it for a while. We didn’t know which way we wanted to go with it. It was brought up, and everybody decided that we should have that in “

Cypress County’s job posting said the position is responsible for enforcing County bylaws and selected Provincial Statutes, among several other responsibilities.

The new officer will join current peace officer Jason Schreiber, who was hired to replace Anna Mast.

Mast served 34 years as the first and only Peace Officer in Cypress County prior to deciding to retire in early 2025.

Cypress County is also hiring a Fire Captain to help develop and deliver training programs, oversee equipment and apparatus readiness, and ensure the safety and effectiveness of personnel during emergency operations.

Hamilton said that the County had been operating roughly with about 75 full-time staff for many years.

“Even though our responsibilities of service requests they’ve grown and the pressure to maintain that has increased greatly,” Hamilton said.

“We realized that to keep delivering the level of service to our residents that residents deserve, we couldn’t keep stretching our existing staff beyond what their abilities are, so we added more staff,” he added.

“We just want to maintain them, and we don’t want to burn anybody out.”

The job postings can be viewed through the County website, with a deadline of Dec. 29, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. to apply for either position.
