The Avenue Brings ‘Lock and Leave’ Lifestyle to Coulee Ridge

Nov 25, 2025 | 12:16 PM

Coulee Ridge continues to grow as one of Medicine Hat’s most sought-after communities, blending natural beauty with thoughtful design. Its newest addition – The Avenue – is offering residents a fresh option for retirement living and downsizing, built around ease, comfort, and freedom.

Aliesha Kurpjuweit and the Coulee Ridge team have partnered with DAAS Developers to introduce a new concept for seniors or those downsizing: single-level garden home residences designed with convenience, accessibility, and lifestyle in mind.

“These homes are designed for barrier-free living: no stairs, no curbs in the showers, and a layout that allows residents to remain comfortably in place for many years to come,” Aliesha explained. “They deliver the easy lifestyle that condos once promised, but without the drawbacks of fees or high-rise living.”

Downsizing with Style

Each home is designed for those who want to simplify while maintaining quality and luxury. Ranging between 1,200 and 1,500 square feet, the garden homes feature floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, eight-foot doors, and full garages.

Instead of lawns to mow, each home opens to a maintenance-free veranda complete with an outdoor fireplace. “It’s a beautiful and private outdoor living space but without the yard work,” said Aliesha.

Unlike most garden homes or condos, The Avenue designs are highly customizable. With four floorplans available now and more on the way, buyers are encouraged to shape layouts to their needs, whether that means enlarging a veranda or trading a den for more open living space.

“We walk through every single aspect of the design so that when the owner moves in, they truly feel it is their home, and everything is just the way they want it.”

Built for Active Lifestyles

Aliesha noted that the homes are particularly appealing for retirees, snowbirds, or those moving in from rural areas who want the city’s amenities close at hand.

“It’s really about accommodating a lifestyle shift. People are staying more active into their 70s and 80s. These homes let you lock up, head somewhere warm for the winter, and come back without worrying about upkeep or paying to heat and cool a huge house,” she said.

The Avenue has quickly attracted interest. A first row of seven units is nearly sold out, with only one left at the time of writing and more foundations already being poured.

“DAAS has built more than 120 garden homes around Medicine Hat, but Coulee Ridge is where we’ve taken the concept up a notch,” said Aliesha. “They’re really classy, downsized in size but not in quality.”

A Thriving, Welcoming Community

For Aliesha, The Avenue is about more than just the homes. It’s part of creating a diverse, welcoming community within Coulee Ridge.

“When you put different types of housing together like family homes, estate lots, and now these lock-and-leave garden homes, you end up with a development where people can find their place at every stage of life,” she said.

That diversity is central to Coulee Ridge’s appeal. Nestled in Medicine Hat’s coulee landscape, the development has become a vibrant neighbourhood where young families, professionals, and retirees alike are choosing to put down roots. The addition of The Avenue strengthens that vision by giving active seniors and downsizers a home that fits their lifestyle while keeping them connected to a thriving community.
