RDP Athletes of the Week: Nov. 21-23

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Mia Cunningham (Queens basketball) and Jaden Morlock (Kings curling) as the Boston Pizza RDP Athletes of the Week:

Mia Cunningham – Queens basketball

Program – Bachelor of Business Administration (2nd)

Hometown – Lacombe, Alberta

Mia Cunningham made significant contributions to the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens basketball team on the weekend.

In Friday’s 59-56 victory over the St. Mary’s University Lightning, the second-year guard scored a game-high 22 points.

Cunningham, a Bachelor of Business Administration student, added nine rebounds and three steals over 35 minutes.

She was successful on six of nine field goals and seven-of-12 free throws. For her excellent performance, Lacombe’s Cunningham was honoured as the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.

On Saturday, Cunningham contributed nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Queens’ 88-57 setback to the Lightning. She was 100 per cent successful from the free-throw line, going three-for-three.

Next, Cunningham and the RDP Queens will play the Broncos in Olds on Friday, November 28, at 6 p.m.

Jaden Morlock – Kings curling

Program – Practical Nurse Diploma (4th)

Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

As skip, Jaden Morlock had an impressive performance for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings curling team at Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Tournament #1.

Morlock, a talented fourth-year student-athlete, helped guide the RDP Kings to a 4-1 record in Airdrie.

Leveraging his curling experience and effective leadership, Red Deer’s Morlock led the Kings to victories over Concordia University 9-1, Lakeland College 8-4, SAIT 8-6 and the University of Alberta Augustana 7-4.

The Kings only dropped one game to the NAIT Ooks 3-2.

After Tournament #1, the RDP Kings sit second in the men’s curling standings behind the Ooks (5-0).

Next, Morlock, a Practical Nurse Diploma student, and the Kings will participate in ACAC Tournament #2 from January 16-18, 2026.

The results from the two tournaments will be combined. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the ACAC Curling Championships held at Lac La Biche Curling Club from January 30- February 1, 2026.
