Recall petition approved and issued for Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck

Nov 21, 2025 | 12:59 PM

Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer has given the green light for a petition to recall a local politician.

Gordon McClure has determined that the petition, filed by Casey Klein, meets the requirements to recall Grande Prairie UCP MLA Nolan Dyck.

Dyck, Premier Danielle Smith, and Legislative Speaker Ric McIver were issued the approval on Nov. 14, 2025, and were given the right to submit a statement in response to the applicant’s statement. At the time of writing, Dyck has not responded to the petition.

Applicant Casey Klein will need to collect at least 9,427 signatures in the Grande Prairie riding from Nov. 22, 2025, to Feb. 19, 2026.

Klein will be able to register canvassers to collect signatures over the 90-day period, but will need to meet a list of requirements, including:

  • Must be an eligible elector who has lived in Grande Prairie for 3 months prior to canvassing
  • Must comply with the Canvasser Code of Conduct and any guidelines issued by the Chief Electoral Officer

Signatures must be collected using the proper forms provided by Elections Alberta. Any other signatures collected on other forms will not be accepted.

Only those who have resided in Grande Prairie for at least three months to the date before signing the petition are eligible to sign. Signers must also provide their printed name, residential address, and contact information to verify they are an eligible elector, as well as date it on the day they sign. Signature must be done in person with a witness; no digital or online signatures will be valid. People may only sign the petition once.

The petition applicant must submit all petition forms and witness affidavits to Elections Alberta on or before Feb. 19, 2026. Anything submitted after will not be accepted.

Elections Alberta will verify the petition if it meets the requirements within 21 days of being submitted (by March 13, 2026, if the petition is received on Feb. 19).

Within seven days after completing verification (by March 20, 2026), Elections Alberta will report the results to Klein, Dyck, Danielle Smith, and Ric McIver. Results will be published on the Elections Alberta website.

More information on the recall petition process, including responsibilities of the petition applicant and Elections Alberta, the status of the recall petition, financing rules for authorized participants, and frequently asked questions, may be found on Elections Alberta’s website.
