Nov 19, 2025 | 9:54 AM

A Coaldale man has died after a multi-vehicle collision south of Brooks on Tuesday.

Reports of the collision at the intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 873, near Rainier, were responded to by Brooks RCMP and emergency services, including EMS and Fire Departments from Scandia and Rolling Hills at 5:07 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2025.

Upon arrival, Mounties found that three vehicles, containing one occupant each, collided at the intersection.

An investigation revealed that a white van was westbound and failed to stop at a stop sign, entering the intersection at a significant speed and colliding with the enclosed trailer of a northbound semi-truck.

The trailer of the semi-truck was pushed into the oncoming lane, and a southbound SUV collided with the trailer.

The driver of the van, a 22-year-old Coaldale man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 47-year-old Vauxhall area woman, the driver of the SUV, had to be extricated from her vehicle and was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance with undetermined injuries. She was later transported to a Calgary hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the semi truck was uninjured.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist in the investigation, while traffic was detoured around the scene for approximately five hours.

Mounties said they continue to investigate.
