Sanare Centre launches ‘Superhero Search’ program to bring full-time facility dog to Medicine Hat

Johnson said this dog has a big job.

“We’re bringing the extraordinary powers of comfort, courage, and connection with this four-legged hero,” Johnson said.

“That’s to help people feel safe, supported, and to be able to heal.”

Johnson said the impact the dog will have on survivors is incredible.

“We’re so excited every time the community shows survivors that they are not alone and that we stand with them in solidarity,” Johnson said.

“The dog’s calm presence created safety and trust, allowing the child’s story to be heard,” she added.

“Service animals can hold space in healing. And that’s why those dogs are so important, and it’s why we want to have one full-time at the center.”

Sanare has served Medicine Hat, Brooks, and the surrounding communities, providing therapy, police and court support, child advocacy, and education.

The organization is aiming at reducing abuse and sexual violence while creating healthier, safer communities.

Sanare aims to secure 10 leadership donations of $2,500, with all additional funds supporting the dog’s ongoing care and program integration.
