Online Survey

Alberta to potentially increase divided highway speeds

Nov 8, 2025 | 9:00 AM

The Alberta Government has released an online survey to collect feedback on improving “driving experiences on provincial highways.”

The survey is centred around increasing speeds on various rural divided highways from 110 km/h to 120 km/h, including input on which highways where this would work best.

Outside of speed limits, it will also gather feedback on “restricting commercial trucks from using the far-left lane on highways with three or more lanes,” and other options that will improve drivers’ experiences, according to the province.

Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen says the provincial government “is investing more than 1.5 billion dollars this year alone to improve highway safety and upgrade infrastructure. We want Albertans to be able to drive the speed limit that the highways are designed for.”

The survey is available online until Dec. 12. Once results are reviewed, a mini-trial of an increased limit will be conducted and will “include strong monitoring to assess driving behaviour.”

Even with the proposed speed limit increase, the Alberta government is reminding residents to slow down and drive to the conditions, as speed limits are set for ideal weather.
