St. Mary’s School choir from the Fine Arts Academy was welcomed to the stage by Foreigner to perform one of their biggest hits, I Want To Know What Love Is with the band.

The choir earned the opportunity after winning a contest hosted by the band, which seeks out local choirs to perform with them during their tours.

The band called the choir on stage to a cheering crowd during the encore.

Following the performance, Foreigner’s band members applauded the 25 students on stage.

Shayna Peters, the choir director of the Fine Arts Academy, said the experience was so incredible.

“The kids were so excited, they were so thrilled to be there, and everything ran so smoothly as well,” Peters said.

“Foreigner and their management team who helped us out, they were so amazing and so was the environment,” she added.

“The whole lower bowl was pretty much full, the kids definitely felt like they had a real, real big audience to perform for.”

Peters said there were tears shed while the choir was performing.

“I’m extremely proud. I was backstage filming the whole thing, and there was just such excitement,” Peters said.

“It goes beyond words, honestly. What an experience,” she added.

“And to know that they’ll carry this on for years to come, I think it’s so very special. And I hope that they hold it as dear as I do in their hearts.”

Moving forward, Peters said the choir will have lots of performance opportunities.

“Just showcasing that they’ve had this opportunity before, so they can use that when they have the opportunity in anything else,” Peters said.

“We do performances throughout the year, so I think that it’s gonna help with their comfort levels in regards to performing in front of an audience.”

A member of the choir, Elisabeth Stappler, said it was a great experience for her and the rest of the choir.

“It was really fun. A lot was going on. There were really cool lights, and it was just all together a really good experience,” Stappler said.

“I think it will definitely help us in the future because many of us in our class do want to go into the performing arts later on in life.”

Stappler said it was amazing to find out about the event.

“Our teacher came into our class and she told us, and we were all very, very excited,” Stappler said.

“We were a little nervous, but we’d practiced a lot and we were able to make it sound really, really good.”
