Canada Summer Jobs program opens Tuesday

Oct 31, 2025 | 12:49 PM

The 2026 Canada Summer Jobs program officially opens on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025.

Employers from not-for-profit organizations, public and private sector businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees can apply for government funding to hire students next summer.

Those approved will receive funding from the government program to partially subsidize the employee’s wages.

Glen Motz, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, says local priorities for the riding are: support for not-for-profit organizations, small businesses, activities offered at the municipal level, agriculture and local and regional tourism development.

“In this time of a deepening youth unemployment crisis, Iet’s empower our young people by assisting them in developing their skills and gaining valuable workplace experience,” Motz said in a statement.

“I would encourage not-for-profit organizations and eligible employers in Medicine Hat–Cardston–Warner to apply.”

The release from Motz said that summer jobs play a vital role in helping young people earn money for education and living expenses, while gaining valuable skills, confidence and career experience.

He adds that when young people are equipped with the tools they need to enter the workforce, our communities and economy grow stronger.

Full-time job placements will become available starting in April 2026.

The federal government has identified its national priorities as: jobs that provide work experience related to construction, green jobs or environmental protection and exposure to technology and digital skills.

Canada Summer Jobs applications for employers are being accepted from Nov. 4 to Dec. 11, 2025.
