Brooks RCMP have arrested four individuals after its crime reduction unit initiated Project Repetition.

The initiative was a police operation to intervene, identify, and target offenders involved with the surge in offences pertaining to break and enters, thefts of motor vehicles and rural thefts.

Between Oct. 22 and Oct. 23, Brooks RCMP, in partnership with the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP K Division Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Program, and Police Dog Services, initiated the operation.

A variety of policing and investigation techniques were used to monitor and locate offenders committing and involved in the offences, and included arrests and charges against several individuals.

Charged are a 20-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man from Brooks, and a pair of men from Grande Prairie, a 25-year-old and a 27-year-old.

The Brooks woman has been charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

She was arrested and held for a bail hearing and has since been released by the courts on numerous conditions.

The Brooks man has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, fail to comply with release order and fail to comply with probation order.

The man was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody pending his next court appearance.

The 27-year-old Grande Prairie man has been charged with break and enter, theft over $5,000, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of break in instruments and attempted theft from motor vehicles.

The man held for a bail hearing and remains in custody pending his next court appearance.

A 25-year-old Grande Prairie man was charged with two counts of break and enter.

Warrants were issued for the man who was later located near Grande Prairie in a stolen vehicle and taken into custody, where he was held for a bail hearing.

The man remains in custody pending his next court appearance.

Mounties said that investigations are ongoing and further charges are anticipated.

“The arrests made under Project Repetition are directly related to a total of 8 reported property crime occurrences within the City of Brooks and outlying areas,” said Cpl. Lagace, Brooks RCMP Crime Reduction Unit

“Brooks RCMP is committed to making property crime a priority. We will not stop engaging in proactive efforts until it is understood by criminals that this community is not a playground for their illicit activities.”

The public is encouraged by Mounties to report suspicious behaviour and property crime offences, whether they believe the police have investigational avenues or not.

RCMP added that it is important for police to know locations that are being targeted to engage in proactive policing efforts.
