Medicine Hat councilor candidate Faith focuses on housing, health care, and jobs as key priorities if elected

Councillor candidate Jodi Faith focuses on bringing housing, jobs, and health care to Medicine Hat if elected to council.

Faith said she wants to find better housing solutions because housing on a month-to-month basis is becoming difficult for people in the city.

“We’ve got a big, huge project going on over there [South Street Drive], which is going to be apartments, but it doesn’t say anywhere that it’s going to be affordable again, so I think we have to come up with some affordable housing solutions,” Faith said.

“Chinook Village is a non-profit running that entire housing project, and so people can get into their one-bedroom at $140,000, and their expenses all in for a month are less than $600 a month.”

“But that’s only for seniors, so why can’t we do more of those kinds of projects for our regular individuals, whether they’re 20-year-olds or whether they’re 40 or 60, or 80-year-olds,” she added.

Building better health and recovery support is a major priority for Faith if elected.

“The big piece that’s missing straight across the province is transitional housing after these individuals have made good choices. There’s nowhere for them to go,” Faith said.

“I’ve actually talked to people already about the cost of building tiny homes and having them set up.”

“I’ve talked to some of the corporations in the city about utilizing the lands where they have empty warehousing to actually build some of those communities,” she added.

Faith said she is looking to improve jobs and bring more work into the city.

“People cannot survive on 30 hours a week, and so how can we improve the small business community’s outlook in life, how can we commit ourselves to better economic growth,” Faith said.

This is the first time Faith is running for city council in Medicine Hat, but she has prior experience in politics.

“I actually worked and ran for the Ralph Klein government in the late 1980s and 90s,” Faith said.

“I was part of policy making, and ideas that were being shared around the table back in the 90s.”

Faith has decided to run in the election to bring a positive outlook to the council.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to help build a better future for the kids who need jobs and for the parents who need hope, for the families that are struggling financially in these economic times,” Faith said.
