Construction will temporarily alter entry to Medicine Hat Public Library

Sep 1, 2025 | 7:08 PM

The main entrance at the Medicine Hat Public Library will be closed at the start of this week for a construction project.

A portion of the heating and air conditioning system at the library is being replaced starting Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.

Workers will remove the heat coiling unit that is above the vestibule area at the library’s main upper-level door.

The work is expected to take a few days, during which patrons will be able to access the library only through the lower-level door on River Road Southeast.

For anybody that has any mobility challenges and can’t do the stairs, library staff will try to reserve the parking spaces in the front on River Road.

If you have mobility issues and need to park there, library staff said to call the main information desk 403-502-8525 with the day and time you plan to arrive and they will do their best to make sure there’s a spot available for you.

Patrons who are unable to use the lower-level entrance will be able to use a curbside pickup form to book a time slot for their existing holds.

People will collect their materials at the staff door next to the outdoor book return, near the honeycomb wall facing the Esplanade on First Street Southeast. Staff said to ring the yellow bell to the right of the door when you arrive.

Any patrons with specific hold requests are asked by staff to call the main information desk number and speak to a staff member.

The main parking lot will be open, and those without mobility issues will be able to park there and use the stairs to get to the lower-level doors.

Library staff said they appreciate your patience and understanding during this temporary disruption.
