Brooks RCMP say there is no indication of ongoing risk to the public after body found in city

Mounties in Brooks are saying there is no indication of ongoing risk to the public after a deceased body was found in the community on Aug. 20, 2025.

Brooks RCMP with support from the Alberta RCMP major crimes unit continue to investigate the death of 20-year-old Fatima Ahmed who’s identity was confirmed after an autopsy on Aug. 22.

Ahmed was initially reported as last seen on Aug. 15 prior to her body being found.

RCMP said it continues to work with the office of the chief medial examiner to determine the cause of Ahmed’s death.

The Alberta RCMP said they are aware of several social media posts providing erroneous information with regards to this investigation.

It added that as members of this community, we understand the fears and anxieties that such erroneous posts can generate.

RCMP are advising that citizens should take what is circulating on social media with some skepticism, especially when there has been no official police report or warning issued.

It adds the recommendation is for the public to rely on verified information from trusted sources.
