One of Alberta’s largest political parties looks to make the case to residents of Lethbridge that the province is better off remaining a part of Canada.

The Alberta NDP is set to host a Better Together town hall in Lethbridge on Monday, August 18, 2025. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at CASA.

The event will include speeches from leader Naheed Nenshi, Lethbridge-West MLA Rob Miyashiro, and Calgary-Mountain View MLA Kathleen Ganley.

According to the New Democrats, Premier Danielle Smith and the UCP government are “trying to tear this country apart.”

“They’re actively pursuing separation by lowering the threshold for a referendum on leaving Canada, attempting to withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan, ending Alberta’s relationship with the RCMP, and pushing other reckless policies that hurt Albertans while serving the UCP’s own political interests,” reads a portion of the Better Together event page.

The NDP believes that separation would put the economy, trade, pension security, travel, healthcare, post-secondary education, legal protections, and Indigenous rights at risk.

Smith has previously stated that she believes in a united Canada, but pushed for a proposed referendum question on separation to be approved.

The event is free to attend. Registrations can be made online at AlbertaNDPCaucus.ca
