Team Alberta adds seven more medals on Day three of 2025 Canada Summer Games

Team Alberta kept on with their winning ways on day three of the 2025 Canada Summer Games adding seven more medals for a total of 19 for the province, as of Tuesday evening.

This includes Calgary’s Christine Zhou who won gold in the 50 metre women’s backstroke event following a 29.18 second performance.

“This is my favourite event and racing the best swimmers in the country and going the best time to win gold is a really great experience for me,” Zhou said in a media release. “The Canada Games are really cool, having a lot of athletes and people around you that all share a common goal in trying to do their best and trying to win for their province or territory”

Team Alberta swimmers continued to find the podium in six other events on Tuesday evening:

  • Aiden Gyorfi (Edmonton) – Silver, 400m Men’s Freestyle
  • Alan Piatek (Calgary) – Silver, 100m Men’s Butterfly
  • Elleigh Wise (Calgary) – Bronze, 400m Women’s Freestyle
  • Casey Kruse (Strathmore): Bronze, 100m Women’s Special Olympics Backstroke
  • Sasha Rogers [Sherwood Park], Callie Cardiff [Calgary], Meghan Sutherland [Calgary], Elleigh Wise [Calgary]): Bronze, 4x100m Women’s Freestyle Relay
  • Kingston Hitchcock [Red Deer], Levi Hildebrand [Calgary], Alan Piatek [Calgary], Aiden Gyorfi [Edmonton]): Bronze, 4x100m Men’s Freestyle Relay

In rugby sevens, Alberta’s women’s team came out with a 62-0 victory over the host team to complete their round robin play with a record of three wins and one loss. Team Alberta topped Nova Scotia in the quarter finals with a score of 32-7 to secure their place in the medal rounds.

Meantime, the men’s rugby sevens team also advanced to the medal round, after a finish the round robin with three wins and a loss.

They will compete in the semi-finals Wednesday morning, followed by the medal matches in the afternoon.

Other team sports including men’s baseball, women’s softball and box lacrosse will also begin playoffs on Wednesday.
