Four Medicine Hat area athletes competing at Canada Summer Games

The 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, N.L. has over 4,000 athletes competing in a variety of sports from Aug. 8-25.

Those athletes include four from the Medicine Hat area and another from Brooks.

The Alberta men’s baseball team has 17-year old infielder Matthew Getz from Medicine Hat and 15-year old outfielder Kane Bishop of Cypress County on the roster.

Both players were members of Medicine Hat Big League Baseball this summer.

Getz played with the Moose Monarchs, while Bishop was with the K of C Knights.

The pair got underway with a game Sunday at the event, an 8-1 loss to Saskatchewan, followed up with a 4-2 win over B.C. on Monday.

The final two pool games for Team Alberta are today against Quebec and Ontario. Playoffs run through the week with the medal games played on Saturday.

Competing in athletics are 21-year old Tristan Friesen of Medicine Hat, and 20-year old Sarah Pimblett of Dunmore.

Friesen from the University of Calgary Dinos track and field roster competes in throwing events. He is set to compete in shot put at the games.

Pimblett, a multi-event athlete is on the UBC Thunderbirds track and field roster, she will compete in high jump at the games.

Athletic events run from Aug. 19-23.

Athian Madut, a 17-year old from Brooks is competing in men’s basketball with Team Alberta.

The 6-foot-8 small forward and his team got underway with a game on Sunday, suffering a 69-59 defeat to Quebec. They were able to have a dominant second game on Monday with an 83-62 win over B.C.

Team Alberta basketball is in action again on Wednesday against Ontario to wrap up pool play. Playoffs will follow through the week with the medal games set for Saturday.
