City of Medicine Hat meeting processing time targets on permits

Jul 30, 2025 | 12:35 PM

The City of Medicine Hat’s planning and development services department has a service level that aims to complete the permit process by its designated timeframe 80 per cent of the time.

The city has published its second quarterly report for its established levels of service for permit application processing times, bettering that criteria in all areas.

The application review time statistics from April to June 2025 had them reached 100 per cent of the time for both building and trade permits, while hitting 92 per cent for business licences, and 90 per cent for development permits.

According to the city, the levels of service are part of the department’s effort to provide predictable service levels to further strengthen confidence among the development community and all permit holders in Medicine Hat.

A city release said this initiative addresses priorities one and three of council’s 2024 revised strategic plan.

These priorities focus on creating organizational capacity for effective and efficient service delivery, as well as fostering a dynamic and thriving community economy, the city said.

The full second-quarter update, and quarter one report is available on the city’s business and development reports webpage.
